Best Plant-Based Milk for Cereal I’m Obsessed With

  • Kabrena Williams

best plant based milk for cereal

There are many different types of plant-based milk on the market these days, and it can be tough to decide which one is best for you. I’ve put together this roundup of my favorite plant-based milk for cereal! I’ve tried out all sorts of milk substitutes, and these are the ones that I keep coming back to repeatedly.

If you’re looking for milk that will pair well with your favorite breakfast cereal, I can’t wait for you to try out these delicious options!

The best plant-based milk alternative for your morning cereal

No surprise that this made the cut because, over the years, I’ve enjoyed purchasing this brand of non-dairy milk for my household. Plus, it’s my husband’s preference, and I give myself a little credit for helping him leave behind cow’s milk for good.

I buy the half-gallon size, and we go through it quickly because we enjoy it so much in our smoothies, baking recipes, and, yes, cereal. It’s creamy and has a lovely flavor that isn’t overbearing with sugar.

Unique Qualifier: It’s a recognizable brand easily found in most U.S.-based grocery stores. As a college student, it was the first non-dairy milk I remember reading that emphasized their Vitamin E and calcium-fortified qualities with a hint of flavor.

Milkadamia milk

The nutty flavor of macadamias is a nice addition to cereal. I love the taste, and it’s one of those rare milk substitutes that doesn’t have added sugar. It’s a great option for those seeking gluten-free and soy-free milk products. A great to incorporate into your plant-based diet.

Unique Qualifier: If you are someone whose lactose intolerance gets in the way of enjoying cereal and milk, this is a game-changer. My friends who drink this milk often say they feel less bloated after consuming it.

Califia Farms: Coconut +Almond Milk Blend

Who said you couldn’t have the best of both worlds? This almond and coconut milk blend is everything that my breakfast-loving heart desires.

The milk is creamy, has a slight sweetness, and has no added sugars, and I don’t feel guilty about indulging. I’ve paired this with honey bunches of oats cereal, granola, and chocolate chip cookies (for those days when you need a little something extra).

Unique Qualifier: The combination of coconut and almond is brilliant and is one of the best milk alternatives on this list. I love that it’s a bit lighter than others but still has that creaminess I crave.

Silk soy milk

Soy milk doesn’t get respect or credit for making animal-based milk popular. This is primarily due to the fear that soy milk will contain GMOs. However, many brands (including Silk) use whole-harvested soybeans and are NON-GMO verified.

I grew up on Silk milk and had fond memories of drinking it with my cereal as a child. I find that it has a bit more watery consistency than some others, but the taste is so classic and nostalgic for me.

Unique Qualifier: It’s the only soy-based plant milk featured on the list. Again, soy deserves to be celebrated for contributing to the plant-based milk industry. Soy milk benefits include being a good source of protein, calcium, and B vitamins.

Trader Joe’s oat milk

I love that they’ve coined this as an “oat beverage.” Well, it’s a delicious beverage with 2 grams of protein and deliciousness if my tastebuds have ever had anything to say about it. I’ve had this milk with every type of cereal imaginable, and I’m never disappointed.

I was pleasantly shocked by the creaminess and sweetness of the first sip. It tastes like the real thing (oats) and tastes better than other oat-based milk I’ve tried. This is a great budget-friendly option that doesn’t sacrifice taste or quality.

Unique Qualifier: It’s a great choice for those who swear by anything Trader Joe’s because you’re more inclined to try it. Oat milk is the newer plant-based milk on the scene but I think it’s here to stay because of its creamy texture and flavor.

Now here’s a brand that is disrupting the dairy industry. I was recently introduced to Califia Farm’s milk, and I’m convinced that the nutty taste I receive from every sip will forever be insatiable.

I love the Califia oat milk because it has a similar consistency to almond milk but with more of a pronounced oat flavor.

This extra creamy will never get old, so I’ll continue adding it to my cereal until they stop making it. It’s that simple. I know this list of non-dairy milk was created with cereal in mind, but if all coffee shops could house this milk, the world would be a better place.

Unique Qualifier: The nutritional value is pretty sound for milk that offers extra creamy to your bowl of cereal. You get calcium, vitamin D, potassium, and Vitamin A every sip.

Planet Oat Unsweetened Vanilla oat milk

Ahh, it’s unique that you’ll find a brand like this one that specializes in everything oat. I was so excited to try this milk because I love the idea of vanilla oat milk. It tastes similar to Trader Joe’s milk but is slightly less creamy. This is the best pick if you’re looking for a good option and value for your money.

Unique Qualifier: The protein content is solid and is a good choice for those with busy households because it’s usually on sale in grocery stores throughout the year. Like all other dairy-free milk, it has a great source of calcium and vitamins A & D.

Planet Oat

Unsweetened pea milk + protein

Like flax milk, this plant-based alternative also offers much protein in every serving. Try 8 grams of protein.

Not too shabby, right? It’s also a good source of calcium, iron, and vitamin D. I like using this milk with my oat squares cereal because it doesn’t get soggy and doesn’t overpower the cereal’s taste.

Unique Qualifier: This milk triumphs over animal products due to its nutritional value when it comes to Pea protein. It contains all nine essential amino acids, is low in calories, and goes great in smoothies. This is the best option if you’re pursuing this drink for health reasons.

Plant-based milk alternatives that are worth trying

Many plant-based options are worth trying if you’re looking for a dairy-free milk alternative. I’ve tried several different types of plant-based milk, and these are some of my favorites.

In the future, some other plant-based milk I would love to try would be banana milk, rice milk, cashew milk, and hemp milk. Have you tried any of the ones I mentioned on this list?
