- It marks the day, June 19, 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation was finally read to enslaved African-Americans in Texas (2 years after it was issued)

5 Fun Juneteenth Activities in Charlotte
This North Carolina Juneteenth Festival does a great job showing the significance of Juneteenth through African dancers, African drumming, drum circles, and even an annual talent show!
The festivities kick off with a Unity March, beginning at the Grady Cole Center and ending at House of Africa.
